How many chickens are killed every day in Australia?

15 May 2015

How many chickens are killed every day in Australia?  Before reading on, try to guess.  Is it 1,000 or 10,000 or even 100,000?  According to the Australian Chicken Meat Federation well over one million chickens are slaughtered for food in Australia EVERY DAY!

Normally chickens can live for many years, but farmed chickens are slaughtered when they are just babies, at 6-8 weeks.  Due to selective breeding, farmed chickens grow at such abnormal rates that most suffer painful skeletal disorders by the time they are slaughtered.

If you have ever had the good fortune of knowing a chicken personally, you may begin to understand the horrendous suffering that goes on every day in farms and slaughterhouses in Australia.  Eating chickens is entirely unnecessary and it causes untold suffering.  Find out more at Aussie Chickens.
